The Kingdom of Lavenfell.

Disclaimer: as a player of the campaign, there's a lot of information that either Gyles didn't know but I did due to the DM's world write-up, or I didn't know at all because the DM hadn't shared it. This is more of a glossary of things that might come up in tags that differ from a traditional D&D campaign than a full-blown explanation of the happenings of Gyles' world.

Oversouls of Protection. An Oversoul of Protection is a physical manifestation of a person's spirit, allowing them to heal quick and resist some physical or magical harm. But an Oversoul can take too much damage, and break. When it does, its user becomes significantly weaker, and will require an intervention from a healer or someone who's otherwise skilled with medicine.

Mechanically, Oversouls are this world's explanation for "what happens when your character reaches 0 HP". A character would only be unconscious if unlucky, and could be brought back to fighting condition with a successful Medicine check, a healing spell from a healer specifically (like Gyles), or spells like Spare the Dying. A character with a broken Oversoul still had to roll death saves, and could die in this state.

Calendar of Lavenfell. Each month is 28 days long, and are in the following order: Month of Timber, Month of Earth, Month of Seeds, Month of Rain, Month of Nets, Month of Clans, Month of Songs, Month of Harvest, Month of Wind, Month of Darkness, Month of Ice, Month of High Cold, and Month of Hearths. Timber through Rain are the Spring months, Nets through Songs are Summer, Harvest through Darkness are Autumn, and Ice through Hearths are Winter.

Gyles was born on the 14th day of the Month of Hearths, which would roughly correspond to December 16th.

Gifts of Lavenfell. In the Kingdom of Lavenfell, everyone has access to at least some magic. The type depends on the season you were born in, and having the magic doesn't guarantee being good at it.

As a child of Winter, Gyles had ice magic (Ray of Frost and Frost Fingers) in addition to his trickery cleric spell list. (if he'd lived to level 5, he would've gotten sleet storm, too, but alas)

Birdfolk and Humblefolk. Gyles is a Mapach, based on the real life tayra, while fellow party member Kathryn is a Strig. Both of these races are from Humblewood, an additional campaign setting for D&D 5e.

As a Mapach, Gyles is naturally a good climber, can see better than the average person in the dark, and is resistant (but not immune) to poison. He's also skilled at making cheap and makeshift but functional items with an ability called Scroungecraft. In a nutshell, he's good at making crude but workable things in a pinch.
