Character Information.

Name Gyles Age 51 Born Month of Hearths, 14th Day
Race Mapach Class Trickery Cleric Deity Olladra
Story.
From North Harbor to Southern Port. Gyles's life has always been rough. From a young age, he was alone, and everything he had he either had to make or otherwise obtain with his own two hands. This left him bitter and angry at the world, and at times that bitterness was the only thing that kept him on his two feet.

Then, by chance, when he was at his absolute lowest he (quite literally) stumbles upon a kind cleric of Olladra, a honey badger Mapach named Hune. At first, Gyles didn't trust him, but he was far too weak to protest or escape his kindness. And so, under Hune's gentle watch, while being asked for nothing in return, he healed - and his heart, too, began to heal.

From there, their feelings for each other grew, slowly but surely, like a bud underneath gentle rays. They eventually moved into a crummy apartment together, and began making honest (or, well, slightly honest in Gyles's case) livings for themselves, Hune as a healer and Gyles as a craftsman with... other jobs, occasional. For the first time, Gyles could say he was truly happy.

And then Hune died due to a sudden illness, and all those years of loneliness he had endured in his youth came crashing down on him all at once. With no place (and no one) to call home, he left North Harbor and headed to Southern Port, thinking of nothing else but escape and hoping that maybe, maybe if he drags his old body and tries to do good while he's still unfortunately alive, then maybe that'll bring him closer to Hune.

From Southern Port to Farstead. In Southern Port, Gyles meets Kathryn (a Strig druid), Elmnier (a tiefling wizard), Sidlan (a human rogue), and Reginald (a halfling bard). With Reggie at the helm as their coordinator, the latest adventuring party within the renowned Tri-Heart Guild is formed.

... though the group composition doesn't stay the same for long, as Sidlan leaves before they reach their first town, Norveryn (a dragonborn fighter) joins and then also leaves, and Zivrim (an aasimar warlock) and Arnulf (a human fighter) join and actually stay. But eventually, with all that shuffling settled and their first good deeds as the do good Tri-Heart Guild completed with the clearing out of a hobgoblin camp, they next set their sights on the city of Septum, where there are rumors of shady business happening in the sewers.

From Farstead to Septum. Unbeknownst to the group, they were about to be thrust head-first into a plot much, much bigger than they could've anticipated. The request seemed simple at first: investigate the source of the corrupted magic, and deal with the issue if possible. But the mission starts in a deeply troubling manner, as the party's investigation leads them to a church of Olladra, where the entire congregation had been massacred and shoved into the church's pews.

After justice had been served, Gyles has a moment alone with Zivrim. Though not willing to open up completely, some cracks begin to show in the stoic, steady front he's put on.

From the church, the party descends into the underground proper, where more bloody battles ensue. During their descent, they find a group of townsfolk held captive - including a honey badger Mapach. For the first time, Gyles loses his composure, grief overtaking him as he thinks just for a moment that it's Hune brought back to life. It's not, of course - necromancy is forbidden. they're there to stop things from coming back to life - so the group presses on.

Further in, they gain an unexpected party member as they rescue Rikkard (a human paladin) from torture - which turns out to be a great boon for them, as they need all the strength they can get for the battles ahead. Gyles nearly dies at the hands of cultists, and then the party narrowly survives an attack from an undead army. With the aid of a teleportation circle, they escape the underground with their lives. Elmnier, having had more than enough adventure for a lifetime, decides to leave the group and return to school.

The now smaller group takes time to recuperate after the difficult adventure, before following their next lead. During this downtime, Gyles tries to cope with the trauma as he always does: by acting how Hune would. He donates his time and money to churches in the city, and goes out of his way to ensure the honey badger he'd met and mistaken for his late husband, a humble grocer named William, made it out safely. But the weight becomes too great, so he chooses to confide in Zivrim, building on their earlier conversation. He tells them more than they expected to - about the loss of Hune and how devastated he's been as a result, how Hune felt like the only good thing in the world, and that he's only standing beside them because they know that's what Hune would've done, and while Gyles is no good, Hune is.

Having recovered as best they could, and with gifts in hand, they set their sights on Darkwell.

From Septum to Darkwell. On the way to Darkwell, the party meets Leo (half-elf artificer), who decides to join the guild despite not being able to read all the paperwork that's involved in joining the guild. Soon after, they arrive in Darkwell, which... isn't exactly the most cheery place. Tensions are high with the ominous darkness in the sky, the Witch Burners and followers of Pelor, and news of disappearances. But there's joy to be found in the gifts in the form of food and supplies for the people of Darkwell, and the orphanage they lend their aid to.

The longer the group spends in Darkwell, the messier the situation becomes. There's protective runes being broken, hags forced out of hiding, and destruction all around. Determined to end things once and for all, the group heads into the forest in pursuit of the covenant.

The End. While wandering through the forest, several members of the party, including Gyles, are tricked by personalized illusions. He hears Hune calling to him - and, without hesitation, he follows the source of the voice, to who he believes is his love. He embraces him, flooded with relief to be reunited with Hune... and then is flooded with the poisons of a plant, which sends him into a deep slumber. His last conscious thought, as he's reality getting crushed to death by a plant, is of Hune, and he passes with a smile on his face.

Impressions.
Visual. Gyles is a 4 foot tall Mapach, based off the real life tayra. His fur is a lighter brown by his head, transitions to a copper/gold color around his neck and shoulders, then transitions to a darker brown. He wears a blue cloak, and his Tri-heart Guild symbol around his neck, hidden underneath it. His earrings are actually his and Hune's holy symbols. The one on his left ear adds up to 5 and looks like a proper earring, while the one on his right ear adds up to 9 and uh. clearly doesn't look like a proper earring, because it was formerly worn around Hune's neck on a cord and Gyles kinda just shoved it in his ear and made it work. There's a scar on his face and across his chest from his near death experience in Septum.
Aural. Gruff Old Man
Olfactory. a bit earthy, like a forest :)
